Three major times of the year when people pop the question are New Years, Valentine’s Day, and the road to the Super Bowl. If the Eagles win the Super Bowl – the numbers rise. We’ve seen it on the screen, people on their knee proposing in the stadium, at a tailgate, and on Broad Street while others are climbing poles.

During the Eagles parade, there are sure to be more proposals.

So when you’re chanting E-A-G-L-E-S . . . EAGLES!, if you are getting married, you should also be thinking P-R-E-N-U-P . . . PRENUP!

A prenuptial agreement is an agreement that couples enter into before they get married to resolve issues in the event they divorce. Prenuptial agreements are often entered into where one or both of the parties have large assets and/or wealth. However, a prenuptial agreement can be entered into by everyday people as well. The benefit of entering into a prenuptial agreement is to avoid the ugliness that can come with a divorce, as it resolves the issues that arise during divorce before it happens such as who will get what. Additionally, a prenuptial agreement protects assets and wealth in the event of a divorce.

A prenuptial agreement is like any other contract. However, the Divorce Code provides extra protection and mandates that each party provide the other with fair and reasonable disclosure of their assets and wealth. For wealthy individuals, a confidentiality agreement can also be signed, so that the details of their assets and wealth are kept private, but the requirements of disclosure are still met.

So, as we bask in the glory of the Eagles amazing road to victory and Super Bowl win, if you are intending to get married, remember P-R-E-N-U-P . . . PRENUP!!
